Broken Edge Boss Rush Ruleset

Overview

The Boss Rush Format was used in the first EBI tournaments, as well as the first set of leagues, and is intended to reward player and game knowledge across multiple different match ups. The core concept is that, once a class is selected by either player, it cannot be used for the rest of the set. Sets are played as Best of 3 matches, or first to 2 wins.

Lobby Creation

  • Most often, matches will be called by the Tourney Bot in the VRFN discord. A thread will be created in the tournament channel for your match up.
  • A coin flip (/coinflip) will be used to determine who initially has Priority. The user with priority will pick to either host the match, or determine who will pick first. If no side of the coin is called by a player, the higher seed (top player in bracket) will gain priority on heads.
  • It will be the responsibility of the hosting user to create a lobby and send their room code to the match thread in a timely manner. Once the second player (and streamer if applicable) joins, they will call out whether they want the first or second (counter) pick.
  • As stated above, once a class is picked it cannot be used by either player for the rest of the set.

Match Set

  • Once the first match is played, the losing player will gain priority, and will choose between hosting and counterpicking.
  • If the host remains the same, users will select “return to lobby” and follow the process as stated above. If the host changes, it is up to the hosting user to send the room code in a timely manner to the match thread.
  • This process will continue until one player gets 2 wins, which will win them the set.

Reporting Match Results

  • After a set is completed, it is the responsibility of the winning player to report match results via the created match thread
  • If, after a match, results must be disputed the disputing player must use the Dispute button under the relevant set in the Match Results Channel. Players must dispute matches in a timely manner.

Match Dispute Procedure

For the sake of event flow, unsubstantiated or non-major disputes will likely be rejected. That being said, match disputes can and will be handled by the Tournament management team on a case-by-case basis. The disputing player has the burden of proof in proving that significant lag or technical issues influenced the result of the match. Recording Matches is highly encouraged as spectator cam is not always an accurate reflection of game state.

    • Disputes that hold Merit
      • Significant in-game glitches (eg. Shortened Reset distance, Tie Glitches)
      • Significant Ping Spikes or Consistently high ping (Must be paired with proof that this effected gameplay)
      • Suspected Exploits or cheats (eg. Long arms exploit)
    • Disputes that will likely be rejected
      • High Ping that does not effect gameplay or is otherwise unavoidable (eg. Cross Region ping)
      • Disputes without proof
      • Minor in-game glitches (eg. Moderate Stutter)

    Other Guidelines

    • If you have a question that isn’t covered above, please reach out to Dr. Oolong for further assistance.
    • In the case you are unable to make your matchup, please get in contact with the tournament manager ASAP. Substitutes based on tournament ranking are sometimes utilized for this.
    • Remember that, above all, our goal here is to have fun by playing fair and challenging matches. Remember to be humble in both victory and defeat, as you never know how your next match up with this player will go.

    Good Luck and Have Fun
